Next to You, Mom Wars

I stare, look you up and down;

Congrats!  I get the better crown!

Who I am is better than you,

Much better house, much better shoe.

When my yardstick hits the grading curve,

I’m superior, so  I deserve-

a life of riches, power, love;

God’s perfect justice, peace’s dove!

Don’t look at the real standard-

measuring stick of God’s  Word.

(Corinthians 10:12).

Light

My friend’s candor stung,

searing to my heart

tears forced from my eyes.

Brought litigation to her

of being harsh;

her reply turned my head-

It’s not the light that hurts you,

it’s what the light reveals.

The raised rock

shows the base,

the crass,

what is filthy

when the light hits it.

Character

Once dewy-skinned youth

kissed me-

her and I smiled,

shimmer my best friend.

Soft, sensitive, supple

my inner voice earnestly appealed.

Now the flakes,

shed in snowy patches;

hidden thoughts etched in every facial line.

Didn’t respond to Him

in my young days,

now third degree burns with throat-closing stench

from seared palms, seared conscience.

simplicity

Bombastic, dense grey web

complexities;

high-blown brilliance

often inferior to

raw candor,

simple rhyme;

waterfalls from

an innocent heart.

My own wisdom

Take council

from the rank heart,

Judas kiss, apparent devotion

at the Peak of it all-

as the faithful crowd watches on,

cheers the hypocrisy,

until (there is nothing hidden, that

will not be revealed)

the light of day shows you.

Reach for me

You lower your

immense hand to me;

gentle majesty apparent.

Softly restrain power,

glory,

to pick up my pieces and make something

new.

Heart

What would you do to trap my heart?

Would you grasp ,

clutch a cloud-

wrap it around me,

like an angora sweater?

Dig to the core of the earth

and show me the grit under your nails?

Would you take the nails like He did?
Stagger to an end that’s my new beginning?
