Walk the stark, bitter streets,

the sleet has caused this mud;

curbs where  a gutter meets,

precipitation reaches flood-

and passerby look straight down,

isolate to their  box;

Pondering questions with a  frown,

cross the path with a fox.

LUXURY around here,

would be where two kindnesses meet,

so much hate and so much fear,

on this life’s broad street.

  1. The rhyming pattern in this poem is very nice! I know that contemporary poetry has largely abandoned rhymes, but I still enjoy them very much.

    I love the message too! That is a very creative interpretation of the word “luxury.”
